About the author

Victor Krizhanivsky never follows fashionable trends in art nor chosens any conventional, adopted or profitable themes and topics. With his outstanding works he tries to bring people his personal steady view of the artist, scholar, historian and creator for life and variety of the world through art images and symbols. The artist believes that each image, theme, thought expressed in his original symbolic characters and topics brings people the feeling of involvement, dignity and respect, letting them admire the cosmic, sacred and bright past of our ancient talented and powerful people. His creative path is a constant search for a shape, composition, colour and material able to express his creative spirit and high spirituality, vitality and flight. His feeling of beauty and poetic gift provide him with power to bring people only goodness, eternity, beauty and kindness. Romantic vision and creating the Ethnic myth has made it possible for Victor Krizhanivsky to reach the proper grade of generalization, to get more freedom and easy-going in a formal building of his composition bringing definite images to the point of figurative metaphor. It is this task that the artist is guided using his artistic and decorative gifts of intensive technique of colour etching in which the artist is a great master. It is worth mentioning that Victor Krizhanivsky doesn’t limit himself by ‘profitable’ for himself pagan (heathen) theme. In his thematic compositions, Ukrainian landscapes and portrays the events of today can be found. There are characters and images of Slavonic mythology so beloved by the artist present in landscapes not too nice at first sight, in unremarkable for another person places in Kyiv and in other sities, where the artist has been to. The aim of the artist is to stand ‘for’ but not ‘against’; not to blame nor to ruin, but to create and fulfi his own, to bring back and resurrect the charm of ancient Slavs through a deep studying of ancient memorials and chronicles, modern researches of science, comparing the past of our people with the past of others both faraway and neighbouring peoples, with their culture and religion, art and traditions. All his wide experience and knowledge he tries to use in art. Victor Krizhanivsky managed to instil in life one of the cherished dreams of his – to set fire of our forbears at the place ‘from where Rus was started’. We can just hope for his artistic light together with the fire set by his precursors and colleagues in art sphere, to be the lighthause on our long and hard way back to the sources of ours. The wisemen say that it is easier to reach the goal, even if the road is difficult and curving, during lighttime. So we have to make the first steps.
