Vijayasree (Vijayashree or Vijayasri) was a Malayalam film actress and sex symbol from India in the 1970s. She acted in many movies opposite Prem Nazir.[1]

She gained popularity due to her beauty and was considered as the most beautiful actress in the Malayalam film history. She was a contemporary of the popular Malayalam actress Jayabharathi. Her most notable films are Angathattu (1973), Arumalunni (1972), and Ponnapuram Kotta (1973), the last two films being directed by Kunchacko. In all these films, she starred opposite Prem Nazir. At the end of her career she parted ways with Kunchacko.

She also acted in a number of Tamil films but in supporting roles. She had played an important role in Babu (1971), a `Sivaji 'Ganesan starrer, as the pair of Sivaji who is killed early in the story. She had also acted opposite Gemini Ganesh in ``Chithi, a hit. Other notable ones are Deivamagan (1970), Adhe Kangal (1967) and Kulavilakku (1968).

She committed suicide at the age of 21, because of a constant blackmailing from the producer cum director of the film ponnapuram kotta. Her mother, who suspected foul play, wrote several letters to the police chief and the President pleading with them to unravel the mystery surrounding her daughter's death. All that she got as reply was, ``The viscera has been sent for examination. It will give us a vital clue," a routine statement. The truth never came out.[2]
