Vijapur is a city and a municipality in Mehsana district in the Indian state of Gujarat.It is one of fastest developing city of gujarat.It is famous for cotton and tobacco.There is also centre for excellence research for wheat one of its kind in gujarat.The famous maheshwar temple of mahadev is also located nearby.
Geography
Vijapur is located at 23°34′N 72°45′E / 23.57°N 72.75°E.[2] It has an average elevation of 116 metres (380 feet). It is around 5 km away from the Sabarmati river which is one of the longest river in Gujarat.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[3] Vijapur had a population of 60,805. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Vijapur has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 60%. In Vijapur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Because Vijapur is not on any primary highways, it is not developed much as compared to Visnagar. It has issues regarding standards of Living, roads, drinking and usable water and other basic requirements.

Vijapur is a birthplace of Jain monk Buddhisagar Suri (He was Patel by birth, and got enlightenment at a early age.) who established Mahudi Jain temple of Ghantakarna Mahavir. He was cremated in Vijapur after his death. A Jain temple and a shrine dedicated to him was established later.
