Videoton is a privately owned Hungarian company, Contract Manufacturer (CM), the largest independent Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider in the CEE region, TOP 30 worldwide, TOP 5 in EU according to the latest ranking of MMI [2]

History

1938Establishment of Videoton Company
1955-1991The state owned company develops, manufactures and sells Videoton branded consumer electronics, IT and defence electronics products.
1988–1990After the change in the political system the state-owned company lost its markets
1991Privatisation: In a public bidding present shareholders and a Hungarian bank acquired the assets of the company.
1992Re-structuring of Videoton. Introducing subcontracting, realisation of outsourcing/transfer projects for Consumer electronics, Automation and Automotive costumers.
1996LBO: private shareholders took full control of the company
1995-1997Acquisitions in Hungary for capacity expansion: new plants in Kaposvár, Jászberény, Törökszentmiklós, Kunhegyes, Salgótarján. Videoton enters the Household Appliance Industry.
1998New strategy: Contract Manufacturing. Videoton offers complete end-to-end solution in this area including material procurement, part manufacturing, final assembly and testing, financing and engineering services. First businesses in Industrial Electronics started.
1999Acquisitions of DZU AD in Stara Zagora in Bulgaria. Videoton becomes a regional CEM company. New business line: production support services for industrial firms on the Hungarian market.
1999First high-tech venture capital investment.
2002The largest independent EMS Company in the CEE region, in TOP 30 worldwide, TOP 10 in EU. Phase-out of defence electronics.
2005Videoton starts to develop into an ODM company in some market segments. First investment in green-energy projects.

Videoton is a regional, integrated Contract Manufacturing company being the 4th most significant European EMS provider and 27th largest globally.[2] It is a multi-commodity supplier of parts, sub-assemblies, modules, complete products and equipment based on its in-house electronics, plastic injection moulding, stamping, machining, tooling and surface treatment operations. The group contains 19 specialized medium sized subsidiaries which mainly supply the Automotive Industry, Household Appliances and Industrial Applications markets. Its subsidiaries can be divided into 2 categories:

  1. Manufacturing companies
  2. Service providers

Altogether, the services of the Videoton Group's vertically integrated operations range from part manufacturing through final assembly & testing to transportation or distribution of the manufactured products.

In May 3, 2011 the company officially announced the acquisition of the direct majority ownership of Győr-based STS Technology Kft., a former STS Group ZRt. subsidiary, which is specialized in the contract manufacturing of high complexity machines.[4]

In July 22, 2011 Videoton officially announced that it acquired the 94% of Ventifilt Zrt., a company which is specialized in industrial air technics and the design, manufacturing and on-site installation of equipment reducing environment contamination.[5]

In January, 2013 the company officially announced that it has recorded continuous growth in the past 3 years, reaching its highest ever income in both 2011 and 2012.[6]
