Victoria Park Station is a Transperth railway station 6.2 km southeast of Perth railway station on the Armadale / Thornlie Line, located between the suburbs of Lathlain and Victoria Park in inner suburban Perth, Western Australia. The new Victoria Park station located 230 metres south of the existing station and commenced operations on 20 July 2008.[1][2] The old station platforms, footbridge and pedestrian level crossing have been demolished as of 27 July 2008. The carpark was refurbished and is now used as a public carpark.[3]
History
Redevelopment
As part of improvements to the Armadale line following the announcement of the new Mandurah line alignment in August 2002, the rail alignment was upgraded including the introduction of grade separate rail crossings. The nearby Lathlain Station was also demolished, in preparation for the construction of a new Victoria Park station nearby.[4] After some delay,[4] on 17 July 2007 Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced that a A$9.2 million (2007) contract for the construction of the new station had been awarded.[1]
As with the previous station, the platforms are in an island configuration. Unlike the previous station, the platforms may be accessed via covered walkway, accessible ramps and lifts, which are of particular importance due to the station's location adjacent to the Association for the Blind.[1]
