Veterans Outer Loop is a major by-pass route in Glasgow, Kentucky. It is maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Road Description

It carries U.S. Route 68 for its course from West Main Street/Bowling Green Road (US 68/KY 80/US 68 Bus.) to the other US 68/US 68 Business intersection on the east side of town at Edmonton Road/Columbia Avenue. From there, it carries the short-length KY 1519 on the east side of Glasgow over the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway, and it ends at an at-grade intersection with KY 1307.

History

At one time, it was known as KY 3160 from the West US 68 junction to the Jackson Highway intersection from its original opening around 2007/08 until the eastern extension was completed in 2010/11. The eastern extension took the outer loop to the east side of Glasgow near the Glasgow High School, and includes Exit 15 of the Cumberland Parkway, and an intersection with KY 1307. The whole thing was open to traffic by the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

Future Western extension

Sometime in May 2015, the Veterans outer loop will once again be extended, this time on Glasgow's west end. The extension will go from its current west end to an intersection with Old Bowling Green Road (KY 1297). [2] [3]The project will also include a new interchange of the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway at mile marker 8.8 just east of Beaver Creek (a tributary of the Barren River). The Kentucky route designation will be announced by the KYTC once the new extension has been completed.[1][4][5] The western extension's state route designation will be Kentucky Route 3800.
