Veteran Pakistani Roman Catholic Priests
Pakistani Roman Catholic Priests who have completed 50 years or more of service in the priesthood.
- Father D’Arcy D'Souza †, the longest serving Pakistani Roman Catholic priest gave sixty six years of his life in the service of the Archdiocese of Karachi.[1]
- Father Francis Kotwani OFM †, the first Sindhi to be ordained a Catholic priest, completed 50 years as a priest in 1994.[2]
- Fr. Ignatius Pinto † ordained in 1945, was vice-principal of St Patrick's High School, Karachi for many years.[3]
- Father Gaspar Mendes OFM was ordained on 7 January 1951.[5]
- Father Robert D’Silva was ordained a priest in 1952. The Father Robert D’Silva Golden Jubilee Invitation Inter-school cricket tournament was named in his honour in 2002.[6]
- Father Simeon Anthony Pereira † was ordained a priest on 24 August 1951. On 3 July 1971 Pope Paul VI appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Rawalpindi. He became Archbishop of Karachi on 11 Feb 1994 and retired from that office on 20 November 2002.[8]
- Fr. Canisius Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish, celebrated the 60th anniversary of his ordination on May 6, 2010.
- Fr. Melito Dias, ordained a priest in 1954, was a hockey wizard and Scout Leader.[14]
- Fr. Louis Mascarenhas OFM was ordained to the Order of Priests on January 5, 1958. After a lifetime of service in Pakistan, he has served in Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Korea.
- Father Anthony Mascarenhas, physics teacher in St Patrick's High School, Karachi for many years.
- Father Lawrence Saldanha was ordained a priest in Lahore on 16 Jan 1960. On 24 Apr 2001 he was appointed Archbishop of Lahore by Pope John Paul II.[20] On 16 January 2010, Archbishop Saldanha celebrated his Golden Jubilee as a priest, serving his church for 50 years.[21]
- Father Joe D’Mello † was ordained a priest in Karachi on January 8, 1961. He was rector of the St. Pius X Minor Seminary from 1994 – 2001.
- Father Joseph Paul ordained in January 1962, he has been serving in Church schools for 43 years.[23]
- Father Bonnie Mendes was ordained a priest on 7 January 1962. “The mission of his life has been to work for the redemption of the underprivileged and marginalized groups including women, children, low-paid workers and religious minorities."
- Father Arnold Heredia was ordained in 1965 and founded the Pakistan Christian Industrial Service. [25]
