Veteran Pakistani Roman Catholic Priests

Pakistani Roman Catholic Priests who have completed 50 years or more of service in the priesthood.

• Father D’Arcy D'Souza †, the longest serving Pakistani Roman Catholic priest gave sixty six years of his life in the service of the Archdiocese of Karachi.^[1]

• Father Francis Kotwani OFM †, the first Sindhi to be ordained a Catholic priest, completed 50 years as a priest in 1994.^[2]

• Fr. Ignatius Pinto † ordained in 1945, was vice-principal of St Patrick's High School, Karachi for many years.^[3]

• Father Stephen Raymond † became the first Pakistani principal of St Patrick's High School, Karachi in 1950. He served the institution for 25 years.^[4]

• Father Gaspar Mendes OFM was ordained on 7 January 1951.^[5]

• Father Robert D’Silva was ordained a priest in 1952. The Father Robert D’Silva Golden Jubilee Invitation Inter-school cricket tournament was named in his honour in 2002.^[6]

• Father Armando Trindade † was ordained a priest on 6 May 1950. On 5 July 1973 Pope Paul VI appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lahore and on 23 April 1994 was appointed Archbishop of Lahore.^[7]

• Father Simeon Anthony Pereira † was ordained a priest on 24 August 1951. On 3 July 1971 Pope Paul VI appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Rawalpindi. He became Archbishop of Karachi on 11 Feb 1994 and retired from that office on 20 November 2002.^[8]

• Father Francis de Souza † (6 January 1924 – 12 February 2014) ^[9][10] He served as Principal of St. Lawrence's Boys School from 1951-54. He studied at Oxford from 1954–58 and received an MA degree. He was rector of St. Pius X Minor Seminary, Quetta from 1958-1965.^[11] He had also been rector of Saint Patrick's Cathedral, Karachi from 1966-75.^[12] From 1975 to 1996 he was Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish, Karachi. He was also Vicar General and dean of the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese.^[13]

• Fr. Canisius Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish, celebrated the 60th anniversary of his ordination on May 6, 2010.

• Fr. Melito Dias, ordained a priest in 1954, was a hockey wizard and Scout Leader.^[14]

• Father James “Jimmy” deSouza was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Karachi in 1952.^[15]

• Father Bonaventure Patrick Paul OFM † was ordained a priest in Karachi on 1 March 1954. On 14 June 1971 he was consecrated Bishop of the Diocese of Hyderabad.^[16]

• Fr. Louis Mascarenhas OFM was ordained to the Order of Priests on January 5, 1958. After a lifetime of service in Pakistan, he has served in Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Korea.

• Father Anthony Mascarenhas, physics teacher in St Patrick's High School, Karachi for many years.

• Father Augustine Fernandes OFM taught psychology at Saint Patrick's College, Karachi from 1962-64.^[17] He has also been a Professor at the Christ the King Seminary (Pakistan).

• Father J. B. Todd OFM, teacher, vice-principal and principal in St Patrick's High School, Karachi, St Francis Grammar School, Quetta, St. Mary’s High School, Sukkur, and St Bonaventure's High School, Hyderabad for over 50 years.^[18]

• Fr. Bruno Sequeira † was a priest for more than 50 years, for long the parish priest of the Sacred Heart Church, Keamari, Karachi. ^[19]

• Father Lawrence Saldanha was ordained a priest in Lahore on 16 Jan 1960. On 24 Apr 2001 he was appointed Archbishop of Lahore by Pope John Paul II.^[20] On 16 January 2010, Archbishop Saldanha celebrated his Golden Jubilee as a priest, serving his church for 50 years.^[21]

• Father Anthony Theodore Lobo † was ordained a priest in Karachi on January 8, 1961. On 28 May 1993 he became Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi.^[22]

• Father Joe D’Mello † was ordained a priest in Karachi on January 8, 1961. He was rector of the St. Pius X Minor Seminary from 1994 – 2001.

• Father Joseph Paul ordained in January 1962, he has been serving in Church schools for 43 years.^[23]

• Father Bonnie Mendes was ordained a priest on 7 January 1962. “The mission of his life has been to work for the redemption of the underprivileged and marginalized groups including women, children, low-paid workers and religious minorities."

• Father Ken Viegas † joined the Franciscans at the Portiuncula Friary, studied at the Christ the King Seminary (Pakistan) and was ordained on April 12, 1964. He has been the parish priest of Padri Jo Goth.^[24]

• Father Arnold Heredia was ordained in 1965 and founded the Pakistan Christian Industrial Service. ^[25]
