Venkatapalem is a village in Thullur Mandal, Guntur Dist, Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the bank of River Krishna. The village is reachable by the road called "Karakatta - Embankment road from Vijayawada to Amaravathi laid adjacent to river Krishna for protecting the villagers during floods". It is located 5 km from Lotus club, Prakasam Barriage, Vijayawada. The village is known for its agricultural activities and unity in the people. The village is fully occupied with a rich green look appearance by banana & Paddy crops.

Culture

The main language in the village is Telugu. One of the earliest/purest forms of Telugu language can be noticed in this region. Other languages such as Hindi and English are also used within the village to some extent. Indian Culture is vibrant with many festivals (that are being celebrated for thousands of years), here are some of the festivals that are observed in Venkatapalem to a great detail: Deepavali, Krishnaashtami, Rama Navami, Sankranti, Sivaratri, Ugadi, Vijaya Dasami, Vinayaka-Chaviti, Ganganamma Jatara, Chennakesava Swamy Seva along with non-Hindu festivals like Christmas, Easter, Eid ul-Fitr, Muharram, Ramadan.

The village totally presents "Telugu Sampradaya", both in culture and traditions. The village also represents the culture of the country "Unity in Diversity", with many religions and languages and the villagers being helpful to one another and living their lives in peace without any hard feelings for other villagers.

Economy

The region around the village has fertile soil and irrigation is supported by the river Krishna and it has a plenty of ground water resources. The major occupation of the village is agriculture. The major crops include Banana, Rice, Gherkin, Onion, Maize, Drumstick and plenty more vegetable crops. There are many retail and grocery stores in the village. Property and agricultural land prices in this village are very high and are comparable with top cities of the State. Some of the people carry various business in Vijayawada. Most of the stores in the Vijayawada city are led by the people of this village. Significant number of Young people were in good positions. Some settled as Chartered accountants,Management accountants,engineers, Doctors, civil servants, managers, and other jobs in both public and private sectors. It is proud to say that the village had some youngsters who spread abroad all across the globe.

Development

The Village is well developed by the founder president Late. Sri Kapa Pullaiah garu who brought the red- mud roads & connectivity on the four sides to the village. As a gesture of respect by the people of this village to its beloved leader, his statue was inaugurated in the village after his death.

Later on under the leadership of 'Sri. Bellamkonda Narasimha Rao Garu', the village achieved the best progress where the roads turned up into BT roads and village got the facilities like Street Lights, Library, Temples etc. This is the first village in the Guntur Dist.to achieve progress in the infrastructure facilities in a short time.

Transport

The village is approachable from the Vijayawada city through frequent autos and buses. Also, it is approachable through Managalagiri – Amaravathi Road.

Education

The village consists three schools. Primary School, Upper Primary School and one private school. Education wise it is in a great triumph. It has a vast student body, in both primary and upper primary schools students from I Standard to VII Standard can study there, but from VIII to X Standard the students has to go to another near by village Mandadam. These two schools played a key role in the life's of many well settled citizens of the village. These two schools are responsible in producing magnificent and responsible citizen of the village and the country. These two schools are the pride of the village.

The private school is Vivekananda English Medium High School, which is situated at the beginning of the village near Chalivendram, which started a decade ago is also responsible for producing young and bright citizens, students from surrounding villages also study at this school.

Religion

The main religions that one can see in this village are Hinduism, Christianity and Islam. The village is famous for its "Vinayaka Chavithi", Sri Rama Navami, Sankranti, Krishna Ashtami celebrations and Sri. Polayya Swamy celebrations on the eve of Sankranti.

It also has the stamp for Christians. The Christmas Carol service is one of the joyous activity observed by the villagers during the early hours of Christmas. During Watch Night service that was held at the December 31st night to the early hours of New Year all Christians gather in churches to Praise God.

Muslims in the village will strictly follow the NAMAZ rules. Muslims are no more exceptional in celebrating their festivals like Ramzan, Bakridin the village. In addition there are other religions people with their special impact.
