Vellimadukunnu

Vellimadukunnu is a suburb in the city of Kozhikode (Calicut) in Kozhikode District, Kerala State, India.

Vellimadukunnu is otherwise called as Marikkunnu. The post office which serves the area also has its name Marikkunnu. "Velliyattummal" is often used by locals. The meaning of vellimadukunnu (velli=silver, kunnu=hill, madu is referd to domestic animals like cow, buffellow, pig etc. it denotes earlier the hills were used for feeding animals grass.) is derived from word "Silver Hills".

Vellimadukunnu is situated 8-9 kilometers away from the city of Kozhikode. Vellimadukunnu is mainly a residential area and basic amneties like school, college, hospital, law enforcement agencies are available here. It is here the Juveniles home and the NGO quarters is situated.[1] Major educational institutions include the Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Silver Hills Schools, JDT ISLAM school, NGO quarters higher secondary school and Amrita vidya peeth.
