2008 Veggie Pride in Paris

The Veggie Pride is an international event that celebrates and promotes vegetarianism and veganism.

It's held annually in Paris[1] since 2001, but later also has been emulated in other cities in the world.[2][3] It brings together vegetarians and vegans who want to show their pride to refuse to eat animals, and denounce the discrimination which they suffer, both personally and in terms of expressing their ideas.[4] The Veggie Pride aims to encourage vegetarians to affirm their convictions and to bring the society to accept the debate on the legitimacy of the consumption of animals.

The first Italian Veggie Pride was held in Rome on 17 May 2008 and was attended by about 700 people.[5][6][7][8] In 2009, the Veggie Pride was held on May 16 simultaneously in Birmingham,[9] Lyon, Milan and Prague.[10]

The edition of 2013 will be international: it will take place on 18 May in Geneva (Switzerland), and gather vegetarians/vegans worldwide. It will occur during four days events, marches, happenings, discussions, celebrations ...

Veggie Pride Parades

2009 Veggie Pride Parade in New York

The first American Veggie Pride Parade was held in 2008 in Manhattan, New York[2][3][11] and was attended by several hundred vegetarian and vegan people.[12]

On April 26, 2009 the Los Angeles Veggie Pride Parade was celebrated,[13] that had Rory Freedman, author of Skinny Bitch, and Karen Dawn, author of Thanking the Monkey: Rethinking the Way We Treat Animals as special guest speakers. On May 17 of the same year the New York Veggie Pride Parade was celebrated, which included Freya Dinshah, director of the American Vegan Society, the Queens city councilman and mayoral candidate Tony Avella, Paul Shapiro, director of factory farming campaigns of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS, and Christine Vardaros, vegan athlete, among others.[14]

2011 Veggie Pride in Paris

On June 2, 2012 the very first Chicago Veggie Pride Parade (CVPP) was held in the Grant Park, Chicago. The event was organized by ChicagoVeg (the largest local vegetarian organization) and a number of local Vegan and Animal Rights activists. The parade was well supported by many local veg-related businesses. Featuring guest speakers, a costume contest, and tons of fun, the Chicago Veggie Pride Parade was a wonderful all-encompassing event to support local vegans and vegetarians, as well as to raise awareness in the general public about the benefits of a plant-based diet.[15]
