Vangaon is a town in Palghar district of Maharashtra, India.[1] It is located 55 km north of Virar on the Western Railway line of Mumbai Suburban Railway. It can be reached from National Highway NH-8, 35 km off from Charoti Naka. It is 10 km North of Boisar on the Western Railway line.

Famous

Vangaon railway station is a nearest and most convenient railway station for almost 100-120 small villages either from coastal area (West) side or towards forest (East) side.

Industrial Training Institute of Government of Maharashtra is a most famous thing in Vangaon. Many students from local area up to Mumbai, Thane, Dombivali etc. along with majority of local tribal students (Aadivasi) are availing advantage of this institute. Dedicated hostel facility is also exist in this institute. After completion of respective course successful, lifestyle of students changed completely and moves towards betterment. Earlier, this institute was operated as a Camus for study in bunglow of Sh.Narsilal Shah, whereas practical are carried out in the Godown owned by Thakur family and Taraporewala’s Family. Later, the same was shifted into its newly established dedicated huge campus. Some more educational institutes located in vangaon are :-

Huge numbers of talent is produced by these various institutions. Chairperson Mr. Anand Thakur is very serious observer of the society and keeps on introducing latest educational facilities. Vangaon is also famous for Capsicum, Chilly and Chikoo farms. Moreover, Vada-Paav sold by Mr. Satish Sharma at Vangaon railway station is very polular among the railway passengers. There are some public temples Mahadev (Near Station), Hanuman Temple (At Railway Crossing), Dattatray (In Campus of Satyendra Bhavanising Thakur, one near Kompada Ground and one in Surya Colony) and 1 private temples (Radha Krishna Temple and Gayatri temple built by Late Sh. Kumar Maharaj and presently maintained by Sh. Vinod Krishnakumar Joshi)

There is a trust called the Shree Kumar Maharaj Joshi Pratisthan established on 10 September 1993. Shree Jayprakash K Joshi is the chairman of the trust. His mother Radha Joshi gave her funds to establish the trust. This trust has built Aadivasi vidharthi vastigruh and handed it over to the vangaon education society in the year 2000. It is named the "Shree Kumar Maharaj Adivasi Vidyarthi Vastigruh". The trust then constructed a crematory for the villagers in loving memory of Mrs. Radha Joshi. The trust went on to establish a free library at Brahmin Aali, Chinchani in 2004. Adjoining the coast the trust has created 'MB Joshi Udyan' garden. The trust has also built MB Joshi English medium school (approved by Govt of Maharashtra) in 2006.

Every year on "Dasera" and "Ram Navmi" Gayatri Yadyna is done by Shree Vinod K. Joshi the younger son of Shree Kumar Maharaj who looks after all his Spiritual work after him. Thousands of people benefit from this twice-yearly event that is still running after 55 years. Shree Vinod (Bhai) Joshi also guides people through Astrology, Numerology and Naturopathy. Shree Vinod (Bhai) is involved in Prachar and Prasar of Goddess Gayatri and Lord Datta Guru.

Ganeshotsav is the most popular festival in Maharashtra and so for this village too. Navyuvak Vikas Mandal’s Ganeshotsav is very poplar and old mandal of this village. As the village has grown up, various mandals are now performing this festival. However, it is ensure by all Mandals that there should be ultimate aim of “Faith in God by Janajagtuti” shall be ensured. Navratra festial is also organised by Navratra Mahotsav Mandal. Besides these, there are 'Jatras' (fairs) organised every year on Occasion of Mahashivratri at Manadev Temple, at Datta Mandir during Datta Jayanti and near railway crossing Hanuman Mandir on occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

Independence day (15 August) and Republic day (26 January) are other major events. There was a tradition to have a display of performance by School children and exhibition on 26 January. The enthusiasm for this seems to be waning.

Vangaon has a weekly market on Sunday. Villagers from all the surrounding villages descend on Vangaon from eary morning every Sunday to buy and sell groceries, apparels, food items, etc.

Agriculture

Vangaon is well known for its delicious chikoo fruit, capsicum, tomatoes and coconuts. Some agriculturists grow flowers like Lily.

Industrial area and power stations

Tarapur MIDC, Tarapur Atomic Power Station and a Thermal Power Station owned by Reliance Energy Limited are located close by. The huge industrial area at Tarapur accommodates various specialty chemical, bulk drugs, steel and alloy and textile manufacturing companies.

Public transport

Rented cars/taxis, state transport buses (Maharashtra State Transport Corporation) and auto rickshaws are the general mode of transport.
