The Vancouver Folk Music Festival (VFMF) is an outdoor multistage music festival. It takes place annually, on the third weekend of July. Founded in 1978, this annual festival uses eight outdoor stages, located at Jericho Beach Park on the west side of Vancouver, British Columbia.

History

It has attracted artists from all over the world and from all walks of life, including Ani Difranco, Utah Phillips, Tuvan Throat singers, Sarah Harmer, Veda Hille, Feist, K'naan, and Ferron, among many others. In recent years, the festival has added more hip-hop and spoken word to the standard collection of singer-songwriters and ethnic musicians.

Historically, the VFMF has eschewed corporate sponsorship, which has led to various unusual advertising gimmicks on the part of companies not related to or supported by the VFMF but wishing to take advantage of a large "captive audience" (for example, low-flying planes with advertising banners).

The VFMF is produced with the help of over 1,200 volunteers each year, and attracts an audience of over 30,000 over three days.
