Valerie Tan
Valerie Tan is a TV host & events host, commercial model and endorser, and beauty and lifestyle blogger (www.MissValerieTan.com) from the Philippines.
She is a segment host for News To Go on GMA News TV and is also one of the main hosts of lifestyle show CHInoy TV and talent search show CHInoy Star Ka Na, both on Net 25.
She was nominated as Best Morning Show Host at the 2013 PMPC Star Awards for TV for GMA News TV's "Kape At Balita", and as Best Lifestyle Host at the 2009 Star Awards for TV for Q-11's "The Beat".
TV Hosting
Valerie got her feet wet in TV hosting via the educational show, Next Stop, produced by Ube Media for NBN-4. Next Stop is a program for teenagers that features National Geographic Channel shows such as Human Edge and Chasing Time. Here, Valerie introduces and describes each show's objective, provide local flavor and context to the programs, and stimulate interest and excitement into the main programs.
A true Q Channel 11 original talent, Valerie was discovered in the reality job search program, May Trabaho Ka!, where she bested hundreds of other competitors in the search for Q's next on-cam talent.
She became an anchor and segment host for "Sapulso"[[1] on Q-11, alongside Ivan Mayrina. Sapulso features comprehensive, informative and up-to-date issues both local and abroad, and was a finalist in the New York TV Festivals for the news magazine category.
In 2008, Valerie Tan was chosen to be the segment host of The Beat. She brings her charm, beauty, and intelligence into The Beat, as she takes on the roles of resident insider on the latest fashion and trends, tour guide to the hippest places to see and be seen in, and discoverer of the most amazing Filipino inventions!
In 2010, Valerie was chosen as the correspondent for the flagship show of Q, True Stories, with broadcast veteran Vicky Morales. Here, she interviews ordinary people with extraordinary stories. She also guest anchors for the showbiz segment of News on Q with Ivan Mayrina and Connie Sison.
For the Christmas episode of True Stories, tables were turned as the show featured the life stories of the hosts Vicky Morales, Jace Flores, and Valerie Tan.
In 2011, Q reformats to GMA News TV. Continuing the tradition of Serbisyong Totoo, GMA News TV will be the window for breaking news, important live coverage, never-before-seen reality formats, documentaries, and investigative programs for a mass audience.
In GMA News TV, Valerie is the resident On Call Scooper for the daily public affairs program, On Call. Alongside anchors Ivan Mayrina and Connie Sison, On Call will provide on the spot assistance to viewers with questions and concerns by putting them in touch with relevant government agencies and authorities. The show will address women’s and children’s issues, reveal corruption caught on cam, provide free legal advice, announce job vacancies, deliver the latest public health updates, and more!
In 2012, she became the segment host for GMA News TV's daily morning show, Kape At Balita. Her segment is entitled Panghimagas, where she informs and educates the audience with history today.
2013 was a busy year for Valerie. Being a Filipino-Chinese herself, she was tapped by Net25's CHInoy TV to be one of their main hosts. Chinoy TV is a one-hour lifestyle magazine show that tackles all of Filipino-Chinese lifestyle. It features topics from People, Events, Sports, Fashion, Food, Places and more. It airs on NET25 every Sunday 10:30am with replays every Tuesday 11pm and Sat 10:30am.
She also hosts the talent search show CHInoy Star Ka Na, looking for the next big Filipino-Chinese singer, airing on Net25.
In the same year, she becomes the segment host of GMA News TV's News To Go, anchored by news veterans Kara David and Howie Severino. Her segment entitled Trending! showcases the latest trending topic features.
Background
Valerie is of Chinese descent having finished high school in Saint Jude Catholic School, a prestigious Chinese school. She graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a course in Communications Technology Management.
Modelling
In 2003, Palmolive had a search for the New Generation Palmolive Naturals Circle of 10. Ten young Filipinas who embody today's generation- naturally talented, caring and have a passion for life. Among 7,000 girls who tried out, Valerie was chosen as one of the 10 girls in the Circle of 10. She is a perfect choice with her passion for theater and performing, and her long flowing black hair and clear skin.
The highly popular anime-game franchise Ragnarok also tapped Valerie to be the face of the character Princess Fei in the game episode Amatsu and Kunlun: A Tale of Two Cities. Princess Fei has a demure and feminine face but unmistakable inner strength, and Valerie Tan was perfect in capturing the essence of the princess. This advertisement ran in all posters and print ads of Ragnarok seen in major newspapers and internet cafes all over the country.
She has also done lead roles for Pond's Antibacterial Facial Wash (aired in the Philippines and Cambodia), Smart Broadband, Skyflakes, and Wal-Mart (aired in the United States of America). Her other ads include KFC, Chowking, LBC, and Robinson's Department Store.
Valerie is also an endorser of Frankstone, the wellness watch that blends the flow of time and the energy generated by crystals into one single object, made in Italy. She also endorses the spa and wellness company, SeriAsia.
Theater
Valerie is a Senior Apprentice of Gantimpala Theater Foundation, one of the longest running theater company in the country which continues its glorious tradition of bringing theater that excites the intellect, stirs the heart, and electrifies the soul!
She has done lead and support roles for the company. Some of her more memorable roles were Paulita in "El Filibusterismo", Laura in "Florante at Laura", the feisty Adela in "Ang Tahanan ni Bernarda Alba", and Mira-nila in Nick Joaquin's "The Queen's Jewel"
In 2006, the twin bill "F. Sionil Jose’s The God Stealer/ Nick Joaquin’s The Queen’s Jewel" won as ALIW Awards Best Play (non-musical category), under the direction of ALIW Awards Best Director Tony S. Espejo.
TV Acting
Valerie showed her acting chops as the leading lady in Eric Santos' music video, "I'll Never Go". She also starred in the Ragnarok-sponsored Moonstar88 music video, "Pag-ibig Ko'y Sa'yo", as Princess Fei.
Awards
Valerie is part of the cast of Gantimpala Theater Foundation's twin bill "F. Sionil Jose’s The God Stealer/ Nick Joaquin’s The Queen’s Jewel" which won as ALIW Awards Best Play (non-musical category), under the direction of ALIW Awards Best Director Tony S. Espejo.
In 2008, Sapulso was a finalist in the New York TV Festivals for the news magazine category.
In 2009, Valerie Tan was nominated for Best Magazine Show Host for The Beat in the 23rd PMPC Star Awards for Television.
Valerie Tan has also been awarded as the Top Achievers Award's 2011 Most Promising Female News Personality.
Her shows, Next Stop and On Call, have been awarded the Anak TV Seal.
On Call was nominated as an outstanding public service show in the 2011 Golden Screen TV Awards.
Kape At Balita is a 2013 Star Awards For TV nominee for Best Morning Show. In the same award-giving body, Valerie was nominated as one of the best morning show host.
CHInoyTV is awarded an ANAK TV Seal in 2013.
