Vaitarana is a river north of the city of Mumbai, India. It is near the border with Gujarat state. Vaitarna supplies Mumbai's drinking water. It is serviced by a shuttle train service from Virar. The houses are still kuchcha. Primary occupation of people here is farming and removing sand from river & creek. Fishing is also an occupation. It is largest river in northern-konkan region and drains whole Palghar district
