Vaani Kapoor (born 23 August 1988) is an Indian actress and model.[3][4] She played leading roles in two films produced by Yash Raj Films — Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and Aaha Kalyanam (2014).
Life and career
Kapoor's father is a furniture exports entrepreneur and her mother is a teacher-turned marketing executive.She did her schooling at the Mata Jai Kaur Public School in Ashok Vihar, Delhi.[5] Later she enrolled in IGNOU, completing a bachelor’s degree in tourism studies, after which she took up an internship with Oberoi Hotels & Resorts in Jaipur and later worked for ITC Hotel.[5] She was signed by Elite Model Management.[5]
Kapoor debuted on television in the series called Rajuben. She later signed a three film deal with Yash Raj Films.[6] Kapoor was selected through an audition to play in the movie Shuddh Desi Romance. Mohar Basu of Koimoi wrote that Kapoor was "a pleasant debutant though she isn’t an overtly powerful actress"[7] while Madhureeta Mukherjee of The Times Of India thought that she was "impressive, pretty and commands a good screen-presence".[8] Kapoor received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her portrayal of Tara in the film.[9]
Her next release was the romantic comedy Tamil film Aaha Kalyanam, a remake of Band Baaja Baraat. During the making of the film, Kapoor trained in Tamil and Telugu. IndiaGlitz called Kapoor's performance "impressive, with her expressions and dialogues perfectly in place with the attitude of her character".[10]
