"Sri Krishna College of Technology"(Formerly V. L. B. Janakiammal College of Engineering and Technology) is a self-financing engineering college located at Kovaipudur, Coimbatore, India.
It is an autonomous institution, affiliated with Anna University, Chennai. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate education. It was awarded its accreditation status by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation) for most of its courses.
Location
It is located in Kovaipudur, within the Coimbatore border, about 30 km from Palakkad. Due to its proximity to Kerala and the relative lack of engineering colleges in Kerala, a considerable number of Malayalees study here. It is in tune with the number of Malayalee students in other Coimbatore colleges.
Facilities
Central library
The library houses separate sections for General, Reference, Periodicals and catalogues. Facilities like OPAC, Discussion Room and Video room are also housed inside the building. The students have access to 43,000 books in all the subjects of Engineering as well as on subjects like Management, General Science and Sports. Indian journals and foreign journals are available. The students also have a reading room to carry out their reference work. The library has 16 qualified staff headed by the Librarian. Sri Krishna College of Technology possesses a two-storeyed library covering an area of 1495 sq.m. with more than 48,130 books covering all the fields of engineering. The distinguishable characteristics of the library are as follows:
The store house of knowledge is a two storey building. There are separate sections for General, Reference, Periodicals, Book Bank, Back Volumes and Technical. The facilities include OPAC, Discussion Room and Audio-Video Room. It has facilities to view and download the latest IEEE papers. There are air-conditioned reading rooms to carry out reference work and an air-conditioned Periodical Section. There are 400 Indian and Foreign Journals including IEE, ACM, ACI, NAEP, ASNT, EERI, PCI, ASHRAE, ASME, SEM, IIE, AUVSI, SWE, AMA, AHRD and AFA.
Digital library
The digital library is equipped with 60 Multi-Media systems, IBM Storage Server with dedicated 1 Mbit/s Broadband Internet and more than 1900 CDs in all topics with a free hand access to all the students. It is one of the key facilities available with which the students & faculty are exposed to the state-of-the-art technologies in the field of Engineering & Science. The Digital Library provides access to the libraries of the leading Professional societies.
Language lab
Students aspiring for a career in Engineering and Technology need to have mastery over the basic language skills. So an interactive language lab facility has been provided for the students.
Laboratory Block
The Laboratory block is a five-storey building with scientific equipment.
Hostels
- Girls' Hostel: The Girls' hostel is located near the VLB Janakiammal College of arts and Science at Kovaipudur pirivu, which is 2 km from the Engineering College.
- Boys' Hostel: The Boys' hostel is located inside the campus and there are three buildings to accommodate the demand from the students. Mineral water is provided along with a hostel canteen for food.
Separate hostels, with modern facilities are available for both men and women students. The architecturally blended students' block is architecturally blended. 24x7 power and Wi-Fi facility are available along with reading halls and recreation rooms with dailies, sports and technical magazines.
The students are also provided with well furnished canteens and spacious dining halls. The kitchen is fitted with modern equipment.
Transport and cafeteria
The College has 33 buses for commutation. The buses ply to several destinations located at the outskirts of the Coimbatore City. The College has cafeteria facilities and food items are supplied in each block at subsidized rates. At present there are three cafeterias in the College. The college provides a very comfortable transportation services for the students to reach the college. The routes are specified by the bus numbers. Buses are also being sent to more remote areas like Periyanaickampalayam and Ondipudur. Apart from town trips, there are buses which also take local trips from Kovaipudur, and from the Girls' Hostel to SKCT.
Sports and games
The students are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities through various clubs like Drawing and Painting Club, Music Club & Photographic Club, NSO, NSS & YRC. The College has a planned playground facility for all outdoor games as well as indoor games like Carrom, Chess, Table Tennis and Gym. Students have also participated in inter-collegiate competitions conducted by other Universities and Colleges. The department of physical education is headed by the physical Director.
