Utkarsh Verma

Utkarsh Verma (born 1 November 1985) is an Indian politician who has been Member of Uttar Pradesh legislative Assembly since 2010, represents Lakhimpur Sadar. A member of Samajwadi Party, he won first Assembly election at the age of just 25, and became 2010 India's youngest MLA.[1]

Early Life and Education

Utkarsh Verma was born to Dhirendra Kumar Verma and Kusum Verma on 1 November 1985 in Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh. He studied at St. Don Bosco's College, Lakhimpur and subsequently was awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Management(PGDM) majoring in Marketing and International Business while studying at the ITS Institute of Management (ITS-IM)of Greater-Noida, India.[2]

Utkarsh Verma was just like other 24-year-old guys, working in the corporate communication wing of a telecom giant and living alone in Noida. But one phone call from his home in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri in 2010 changed his life. His grandfather Kaushal Kishore, three-time SP MLA from Lakhimpur Sadar, was critically ill and Uttkarsh was asked to rush back immediately. He quit his three-month-old job and didn't even collect his fourth salary payment.[3]

His grandfather passed away soon and the responsibility of carrying forward the family tradition fell on Uttkarsh's young shoulder as his father also was not keeping well. So, in November 2010, when he filed the nomination for the bypoll, Utkarsh was barely 25. One and a half years later, Utkarsh is back in the fray again, this time as the youngest sitting MLA.

Family Background

His father was a farmer in Lakhimpur district, Uttar Pradesh. Utkarsh's grandfather, Dr. Kaushal Kishore, was a politician of Lakhimpur. He (grandfather of Utkarsh) was represents SADAR seat of Lakhimpur three times As MLA in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.[4]

His grandfather, Kushal Kishore Verma, was also a private medical practitioner in Lakhimpur.

Political career

Utkarsh Verma was elected to the Vidhansabha from Lakhimpur Sadar in a by-election of 2010 and retained his seat in the 2012.Utkarsh won first assembly election by the margin of 17589 and subsequently in 2012 by the margin of 37993.[5]
