Urvashi Dholakia is an Indian television actress. She made her acting career at the age of six with TV commercial of Lux soap with actress Revathi,[1] Then She made her television career with the TV series by Shri Adhikari Brothers' (SAB), Waqt Ki Raftar[2] later she played in Dekh Bhai Dekh as Shilpa.[1] She also appeared shows Ghar Ek Mandir, Kabhii Sautan Kabhii Sahelii, Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kahiin To Hoga.[3] In 2012, She participated in Colors TV Bigg Boss 6 and on 12 January 2013, she emerged as the winner of the season.[4]

Career

Urvashi first seen in TV commercial of Lux soap with actress Revathi at age six.[1] She made her television acting debut, at age eight with the TV serial by Shri Adhikari Brothers' (SAB), Waqt Ki Raftar,[5] and other TV series and a few movies as a child actor.[6] She also did Jackie Shroff starer Izzat (1991 film). Though she really started acting after her first major appearance, as actor Vishal Singh's teenage love interest in comedy-TV series, Dekh Bhai Dekh (1993) at age 15, and she has been acting ever since. She acted in N. Chandra's movie Tejeswani(1993).

She had already acted in Zamana Badal Gaya, Mehndi Tere Naam Ki and serials like Ghar Ek Mandir and Kabhi Sautan Kabhi Saheli, when she was offered the role of Komolika part of the principal cast of Kasautii Zindagii Kay in 2001, the role made her one of most famous vamps on Indian television, in a series which ran till 2008.[7] The role got attention not just for her acting as a crafty daughter-in-law, which soon "became an unofficial yardstick to rate bad women on TV", but also for the garish make-up, saris and characteristic bindi stylings of her character.[3] This was followed by another dark role in Bayttaab Dil Kee Tamanna Hai (2009).[8] In 2010, she replayed her Komolika character for a TV commercial for Kolkata Knight Riders, featuring Shah Rukh Khan.

Meanwhile in 2009, she appeared as a contestant on the TV game show, Sacch Ka Saamna and made news with her candid confessions. In 2010, She also appeared in the celebrity reality show called Meethi Chhoorii No 1 on Imagine TV.[9] She also played as Dr. Komolika Rana in Dil Se Di Dua Saubhagyavati Bhava, in 2012. On 7 October 2012, she participated in Colors TV Bigg Boss 6 and on Day 97, 12 January 2013, she emerged as the winner of the season.[10] After she won the show, she was also seen doing stand-up comedy in Colors TV's Nautanki the Comedy Theatre.

Awards and nominations

Dholakia has won Star Parivaar Awards, Zee Gold Awards and Indian Telly Awards for the show Kasautii Zindagii Kay as Komolika Basu from 2003 to 2010. She has also been declared as "Best TV villain of the decade 2001-2010" and been awarded for it. In 2014, She won the Garv Indian Television award for Best Negative Star in the Decade Category.
