Schmidt's mastigure (Uromastyx alfredschmidti) is a species of lizard in the Agamidae family. It is found in Algeria and Libya.[1]
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, rocky areas, and hot deserts. It is threatened by habitat loss. Like its relatives in the genus Uromastyx, it is herbivorous.[1]
Taxonomy
The generic name (Uromastyx) is derived from the Ancient Greek words ourá (οὐρά) meaning "tail" and mastigo (Μαστίχα) meaning "whip" or "scourge", after the thick-spiked tail characteristic of all Uromastyx species.
