Urgo (Stargate SG-1)

Urgo is the sixteenth episode from season 3 of the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1. The episode guest stars Dom DeLuise, the real life father of director Peter DeLuise, as Urgo, a curious being who invades the minds of the SG-1 team. The episode is revered among Stargate fans for its humour and is often quoted as one of the best Stargate episodes of all time.^[1]

Plot synopsis

The SG1 team embark on a trip to visit a planet with an idyllic beach, but as soon as they step through the stargate, they find they are back in the SGC. They thought that they just left, but have been missing for hours. They soon discover that an alien device has been implanted in their brains and a being called Urgo reveals himself to the team. But no one else can see him and he is extremely irritating. Will they be able to extract him before they lose their minds?

Reception

The episode is rated highly among critics and fans of the show alike. Much of the praise is focused on the humour, script and acting.

Production

Dom DeLuise ad-libbed the majority of his lines in the episode, and Christopher Judge found the constant ad-libbing so hilarious, keeping a straight face around DeLuise proved nearly impossible on-camera for him, so everyone agreed to reduce his shared camera time with DeLuise for this episode.
