The Urana Shire is a local government area in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The Newell Highway crosses its north-west corner. The Shire includes the town of Urana and the small towns of Boree Creek, Morundah, Oaklands and Rand.

The mayor of Urana Shire is Cr. Margaret Buntin, an unaligned politician.

Current composition and election method

Urana Shire Council is composed of nine councillors elected proportionally as three separate wards, each electing three councillors. All councillors are elected for a fixed four-year term of office. The mayor is elected by the councillors at the first meeting of the Council. The most recent election was held on 8 September 2012. In the B and C Wards, only three candidates, being those below, nominated for election. There being no additional candidates, the election for these Wards was uncontested.[3] In the A Ward, an election was held. The makeup of the Council is as follows:[4][5][6]
