Upper Denby is a village within the civil parish of Denby Dale, and the borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. Lying to the South East of Huddersfield, on an east facing slope of the Pennines, it occupies a position 250m (820ft) above sea level. The southern edge of the village is bordered by the Metropolitan borough of Barnsley within the county of South Yorkshire. Although the village is one of the smallest in Kirklees it boasts one pub, a dentist, a church and cricket pitch. Upper Denby also features a first school Denby C of E first school which George Eliot attended.
In the 2001 census the population was given as 719 and includes the settlement of High Flatts.
