Untersiggingen

Untersiggingen is a small village in the municipality Deggenhausertal in Baden-Württemberg Germany. Deggenhausertal itself is a part of the district Bodenseekreis which is on the north shore of Lake Constanz.

Location

Untersiggingen is situated in a valley between the two hills Heiligenberg and Gehrenberg. The small river of Deggenhauser Ach is flowing through this valley. The village lies on both sides of this river. The older part of the village where most of the inhabitants are living is in the south of this river. Located on the north side of the river is the industrial region of the village. This industrial region was begun to be built in the 80's

History

Ancestry of the word Untersiggingen

The Village was first mentioned in the year 772 by a document of the abbey of ST Gallen. In this document the village is written: "Villa Sicginga". The name derives from the proper name Sicgo.

From 10th to the 13th century

From the 10th to the 13th century are parchments existing, which certificate that there were some knights in the valley named the knights von Siggingen (from Siggingen). The most significant was Albert von Siggingen and his son Rudolf, who had their base in the "Siggingertal" (the former name of Deggenhausertal). Their fortress was stood close to the village. The moat, the fundament and the weir system are still visible. When the fortress had been destroyed is undisclosed.

18th century

Untersiggingen to appertain to the Spital Überlingen until 1779, than it subsequent appertain to the county of Fürstenberg- Heiligenberg form 1779 to 1806 after the downfall of the Heiliges Römisches Reich Deutscher Nationen (holy empire of German nations). 1806 the Fürstenberger lost the county and Untersiggingen owned by the house of Baden.

20th century

In 1956 Untersiggingen got its own water supply. In 1967 a new school building was built next to the old school building. Since 1 January 1972 the independent municipality got a part of the new created municipality Deggenhausertal.

On the boundary of Untersiggingen a new industrial region arose. The new timber yard of the new formed municipality Deggenhausertal found his place in the new industrial region. There was new building site created in the west of the village along the river of Ach. The gaps between buildings inside the village were also closed by new houses.

Economy and Infrastrukture

In spite of its small number of inhabitants Untersiggingen has a own supermarket at the access of the industrial region. In the center of the village is a kind of a pharmacy, and not far away a small restaurant and a fitness studio.
