The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Polish: Szkoła Wyższa Psychologii Społecznej (Higher School of Social Psychology)) is a private university in Poland affiliated with the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology and the Institute of Psychology, Polish Academy of Sciences. SWPS was founded in 1996 by Andrzej Eliasz, Zbigniew Pietrasiński and Janusz Reykowski, former professors of the Institute of Psychology at the Polish Academy of Sciences. SWPS is one of the largest private universities in Poland. It consists of eight faculties in five cities (Warsaw, Wrocław, Sopot, Poznań and Katowice). It has about 13,500 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students.[2] SWPS was ranked by the Polish website www.perspektywy.pl as the second-best private college with master degree programs in Poland in 2010 (out of 96 institutions).[3]
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities offers 20 study programmes, including two programmes in English, leading to Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees in major academic disciplines in social sciences and humanities. [4] Before the University was founded, SWPS associated with Polish Academy of Sciences had been several times renamed for identity reasons: Warsaw School of Psychology, Warsaw School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Warsaw School of Advanced Social Psychology, Warsaw School of Social Psychology.
