The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing (also known as SON) is an undergraduate and graduate institution at the University of Pennsylvania located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since its establishment in 1935, the School of Nursing at Penn is currently the top-ranked private nursing institution in the nation.[2] Penn Nursing sets a higher intellectual standard which is reinforced through an emphasis on science and research. As of March 9, 2010, SON is ranked first in National Institute of Health (NIH) funding.[3]

- ↑ Although HUP began operating a school of nursing in 1886, it wasn't until 1935 that Penn responded to The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association's request for higher education institutions by adding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education to its list of academic programs. In 1944, the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania authorized the newly created School of Nursing to grant the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. A 75-year legacy.(2009, Fall). UpFRONT, 5-6.
