University of Alberta Protective Services (formerly known as Campus Security Services[2]) is the campus police force for the University of Alberta. As a level 1 community peace officer agency under the Alberta Peace Officer Act, Protective Services officer are sworn in as Peace Officers and are authorized to enforce Traffic Safety Act, Gaming and Liquor Act and execute Criminal Code of Canada warrants.[3]
According to section 7(1)(a) of the Alberta Peace Officer Act, officers only have the powers and protection of a peace officer while carrying out duties related to the University of Alberta. They carry batons and pepper sprays but are not allowed for carry firearm.
