The United States, represented by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), is scheduled to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, from August 5 to 21, 2016. U.S. athletes have competed at every Summer Olympic Games in the modern era, except the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow which they boycotted.
Basketball
Men's tournament
The U.S. men's basketball team qualified for the Olympics by winning the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.[1]

The U.S. women's basketball team qualified for the Olympics by winning the 2014 FIBA World Championships.[2][3]

Equestrian
U.S. equestrians have achieved a quota place in team jumping.[4]

Sailing
U.S. sailors have qualified one boat for each of the following events upon receiving a place from the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships.[5]

U.S. shooters have achieved the following quotas based on their performance at the 2014 ISSF World Shooting Championships.[6]
- Men's 50 m rifle prone – 1 quota place (Matt Emmons)
- Men's 10 m air rifle – 1 quota place (Dempster Christenson)
- Men's 10 m air pistol – 1 quota place (Will Brown)
- Men's skeet – 1 quota place (Vincent Hancock)
- Men's double trap – 2 quota places (Joshua Richmond, Jeffrey Holguin)
- Women's skeet – 2 quota places (Brandy Drozd, Kimberly Rhode)

Swimming
U.S. swimmers have so far achieved qualifying standards in the following events (up to a maximum of 2 swimmers in each event at the Olympic Qualifying Time (OQT), and potentially 1 at the Olympic Selection Time (OST)):[7][8] Swimmers must qualify at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials (for pool events).
