Boxing

The United States was the only nation to have boxers compete in boxing.

Egan's real name was Frank Floyd and by the rules of the AAU it was illegal to fight under an assumed name. In November 1905 the AAU disqualified Egan from all AAU competitions and he had to return all his prizes. Van Horn moved up to silver and Sturholdt to bronze. Sturholdt won the bronze medal without winning a single bout.

Football

The United States made its first appearance in football, known there as soccer, in 1904. Two American club teams played in a round-robin with a Canadian team, with the Canadian team defeating both of the American squads. The Americans then played two scoreless draws against each other before one won the third contest, 2-0.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 Water polo is mentioned in the games reports for the 1904 Summer Olympics, but currently Water polo event is not included in the IOC's medal database for 1904 Olympics, and currently IOC consider Water polo event as part of unofficial programme in 1904.
  2. 2.0 2.1 Corey was French so the IOC medal database shows this medal for a Mixed team, nevertheless the IOC credits the silver medal Corey won in the marathon still incorrectly for the United States.
  3. 3.0 3.1 3.2 Jack Egan was disqualified in November 1905 by the AAU, however his silver medal in Boxing lightweight and bronze medal in Boxing welterweight are included in the IOC's medal database for 1904 Olympics.
  4. 4.0 4.1 4.2 The IOC results database shows Charles Tatham as Cuban for individual events and American for the team event. Men's fencing team foil is listed as American in the IOC database, though one of its members is listed as Cuban for his individual medals.
  5. 5.0 5.1 5.2 5.3 5.4 5.5 De Wael notes that the identity of the non-advancing swimmers in the heats of the sprint races are uncertain.
