The Union of Morrisania was a baseball team for the National Association of Base Ball Players that was founded on July 17, 1855.

History

For their first season, the Union played only one game(this being against Young America), and won the game 25-8. The following season for the Union, they played five games and finished 2nd place with a 3-2 record behind the Brooklyn Atlantics (who had a 4-0). After finishing the 1857 season in 5th place and a record of 3-2, the Unions would go four long seasons (1858–1861) without finishing any higher than 5th place. Then, in the 1862 season, the Union finished 4th place with a 5-5 record. Though it was not the best season to have, this season would spark one of the biggest seasons the Union would ever have. This spark struck fire in the 1865 season when the Union finished 3rd place and setting a franchise record (at that time) with 13 wins (the Union would have a 13-10 record on that season). Following the next season, the Union finished in 1st in the NABBP for the first time (and only time in their franchise) with a 25-3 record in 1866, but won no NABBP title. Finally the Unions' luck had come when the Union finished in third place and a record 21-8. Although not 1st place, the Union would win the NABBP playoffs and beat the Brooklyn Atlantics for their fist NABBP title (and their only one). After the 1867 season, the Union hoped to do as good as last season. Though they finished with a franchise best 37-6 record, they would only finish in third place. The 1869 season marked a change for the Union and the NABBP forever. The new pro team called the Cincinnati Red Stockings were in the NABBP and many other teams followed with them. Though with the new pro teams, Union played only fifteen games and finished in 5th place and a 5-10 record. After the 1870 season, Union finished a 7-18 record against pro teams (20-19 through the rest of the season). After the 1870 season, the Union refused to enter the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players(which was created by the new fifteen pro teams). After this point, the NABBP folded and became the new National Association of Professional Base Ball Players(1871-1875) and so did with the Union. Finally in 1873 (two years after the NABBP had folded), the Union would be disbanded.

1867 Champion Team

During the Unions' big winning seasons, the Union were looking for a NABBP title. With a record of 21-8, the only obstacle was the Brooklyn Atlantics. The two came face-to-face on October 10, 1867. Though it was one of the toughest games the Unions faced that season, the Union would win by a final of 14-13 against the Brooklyn Atlantics.
