Ukhta State Technical University (USTU) is the largest university in the Komi Republic of Russia. According to the Federal Education Agency of Russian Federation, Ukhta State Technical University officially gained its status not in the 1967 but in the 1958. Since as early as on April 5 of 1958, the USSR Ministry of Higher Education issued an order to establish a corresponding faculty branch of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas as a learning and professional training center in Ukhta.[2] On the fifth of April, 2013, USTU celebrated its 55th anniversary!

Academic year
The academic year is divided into two semesters. The first semester usually runs from September to December, the second – from February to June, with breaks in the early January for Christmas holidays and summer holiday running throughout July and August.
International relations
The university has a number of relationships with schools all over the world. It has set up several projects in cooperation with schools abroad such as University of Nordland, Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, University of Tromsø, Riga Technical University, Univerzitet u Novom Sadu, Duquesne University, Technical University of Ostrava and other. It is a member of the University of the Arctic network.
