USC PhD in Creative Writing & Literature

Overview

The PhD in Creative Writing & Literature was created in 2001 by a committee of USC's English Department senior faculty. The PhD is dual in nature, requiring both critical and creative work from its doctoral students.[1]

The program is generally regarded as one of the top ten creative writing PhDs in the nation.[2][3]

There are two distinguished reading series associated with the program: The Magill Poetry Series[4] and the Boudreaux Visiting Writers Series.[5] In addition, there are several authors who visit throughout the year to hold readings, question and answer sessions, and/or workshops.[6]
