Two Songs by the Microphones is a 7" record released in January 2007 by the band The Microphones on P. W. Elverum & Sun, Idealists (ELV012). The single is pressed on either white or clear vinyl. Although Phil Elverum, the principal member of the band and manager of P.W. Elverum & Sun, had changed the name of his musical entity to Mount Eerie in 2004, it is unclear why he released this single under the original Microphones moniker. At recent shows, Phil had debuted these singles without specifying whether or not they were to be considered by Mount Eerie or The Microphones.
The A-side is "Don't Smoke" and the B-side is "Get Off the Internet"
The songs feature Elverum's distinctive guitars, organs, and distorted drums. There is also an underlying theme of the benefits of a healthier life, working manual labor, getting off the Internet, and, of course, not smoking. The melody of "Get Off the Internet" borrows heavily from "We Are the World".
The songs were later released on the Mount Eerie album Song Islands vol. 2.
