The Turck GmbH & Co. KG is one of the leading manufacturers in the field of industrial automation.[1] With more than 3.200 employees working in 27 countries and representatives in further 60 states, Turck can be called a global player.
With a versatile range of approximately 15.000 sensor, fieldbus, interface and connectivity products, Turck offers product solutions for various applications in the fields of factory and process automation.[1]

Organization

The Turck group is mainly constituted by the two enterprises Hans Turck GmbH & Co. KG in Muelheim on the Ruhr – organizing marketing and sales – and Werner Turck GmbH & Co. KG in Halver – organizing research and development. Managing Directors of the Hans Turck GmbH & Co. KG are Ulrich Turck, son of the enterprise’s cofounder Hans Turck, and Christian Wolf. The Werner Turck GmbH & Co. KG is directed by the enterprise’s cofounder Werner Turck and his son Markus Turck.

German subsidiaries are the Turck Mechatec GmbH in Muelheim (producing and selling control cabinets and connectivity products), the Turck Duotec GmbH in Halver und Beierfeld (developing and producing electronic devices) and a production site in Beierfeld/Saxony.

Besides the three locations in Germany, the Turck group incorporates a total of 24 independent subsidiaries worldwide. Among the biggest subsidiaries are the Turck Inc. in Minneapolis/USA, Switzerland, Mexico and the Turck Tianjin Sensor Co., Ltd. in China.

Company’s History

At the beginning of the nineteen-sixties, the brothers Hans and Werner Turck founded the company, starting off with two employees, a seed capital of 20.000 German Marks and the idea of automating manufacturing processes through electronic components. A bit later their partner Hermann Hermes joined the young company.

Turck's early international orientation dates back to 1975, which was marked by the foundation of Turck Inc. in Minneapolis/USA. Since that day, the company has repeatedly proven capable of reacting flexibly to changing world-markets. In 1989, Turck took over a measuring instrument factory based in Beierfeld, Saxony, and thus accomplished the company’s entrance into the East European markets. In 1995, a sales and production company was founded in Tianjin/China, to ensure the company’s presence on the Asian market.

Products

Turck’s automation portfolio covers approximately 15.000 sensor, fieldbus, interface and connectivity products. In addition to single products like sensors, remote-I/Os or quick-disconnect cables for machine manufacturers or end users, Turck offers comprehensive solutions for more complex applications in the fields of factory and process automation like image processing, radiofrequency identification (RFID), or pick-to-light applications.

Awards

For its sensor, fieldbus and interface technology solutions, Turck has been awarded several times – in Germany and abroad. Among the awarded products are the modular fieldbus I/O system BL67 (USA’s „Plant Engineering“ Product of the Year Gold Award in 2004[2]), uprox+ factor-1 sensors (Best Product in 2005 according to A&D magazine) and the RFID system BL ident (Product of the Year in 2006 according to „Control Engineering China“[3]/award for innovation by gongkong.com[4])
