Trulioo is a Canadian-based company offer web services that provide verification of traffic to websites.[3] It analyzes profiles and determines if traffic is coming from a human or from a bot. The purpose is to allow companies to focus marketing efforts on real traffic and not traffic generated by bots. It began as a service to Facebook in 2012 and as of 2014 includes verification for Google and LinkedIn. It was reported in March 2014 that more than 100 million verifications have been performed using the service.[4]
History
Trulioo was founded by Stephen Ufford and Tanis Jorge. Both previously worked together on startups in the consumer credit industry, with Ufford CEO and Jorge COO of Pharos Global Strategies.[5] They also held similar positions with iQuiri.com and NCB Data, both of which were bought out by FreeCreditReport.com and Experian respectively.[5]
The company received $2 million in seed funding from Blumberg Capital.[6] In March 2014 the company announced $6 million in funding from Tenfore Holdings with participation from BDC Venture Capital and Blumberg Capital.[7] In June 2014 Trulioo acquired Global Data Company, which specializes in electronic, cross-border identity verification. The strategic acquisition positions Trulioo to enter the anti-money laundering compliance space.[8]
