Scoring

Norwell's first score was for the 2001 film Beginner's Luck which starred Julie Delpy and Steven Berkoff. Together he and writing partner Nick Green then scored hundreds of episodes of prime time television including 55 Degrees North for BBC, Drop Dead Gorgeous for Hat Trick, and The Invisibles for Company Pictures. Their score for the Ashley Pharoah ITV series Wild at Heart was subsequently released by AWAL. They wrote further scores for the TV series Hope Springs for Shed Productions, as well as the BBC teen drama Waterloo Road.[5]

Norwell and Green scored seven TV Films together including the 2010 BBC Christmas Special Whistle and I'll Come to You, the supernatural ghost story written by M.R. James and starring John Hurt and the adaptation of the biography Kenneth Williams: Fantabulosa! starring Michael Sheen. They scored Meera Syal and Abi Morgan's adaptation of Syal's novel Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee, and Recovery, featuring David Tennant's portrayal of a memory-loss victim. They also scored Frank Cottrell Boyce's television play God on Trial starring Stellan Skarsgard and Dominic Cooper for Hat Trick, and the BBC's Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story featuring Julie Walters.[6]

Norwell continues to write scores for film, television drama and documentary, including two John Hardwick feature films Svengali starring Jonny Owens and Martin Freeman[7] and Hardwick's documentary feature "Follow The Money (Feature Documentary 2015)". Norwell also composed the music for ITV series "Trouble Abroad",[8] the award winning [9] Yotam Ottolenghi's "Jerusalem On a Plate"[10] and the Ian Barnes short film MatchHead (2013).[11]

Solo work

Mal Influence (2015)

In October 2014, Norwell released his solo debut Mal Influence, on his Cinefonietta Label, an experimental album melding his classical influences with electronica.[12] Glowing critiques have described it "as tough and breakable as glass...somewhere between chamber pop, the ambience of quieter Aphex Twin" [13] and that "it never adds up to anything less than compelling" [14]
