Francis Bacon's "Triptych, 1976" is a series of oil and pastel paintings on canvas,[1] created by the artist in 1976. The 1976 triptych distinguishes amongst all the others because it was the most expensive, being auctioned for $86 million in 2008.[2]
Painting Style
The 1976 Triptych is a vast three panels' (Each 78 x 58 in. 198 x 147.5 cm)[3] combination, with dense colors and abstract shapes. Bacon used his common technique for this one, by starting on the left panel and working across.
History and Price
The 1976 Triptych was sold to the Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, in a Sotheby's auction in May 14, 2008 for $86 million, way beyond the expected price of $70 million.[2]
