Trina Solar Limited is a Chinese manufacturer of photovoltaic modules, which was founded in 1997 as a system installation company. Trina Solar's solar modules provide electric power for residential, commercial, industrial and other applications worldwide.[1][2]

Trina Solar is currently one of the few photovoltaics manufacturers that has developed a vertically integrated supply chain from the production of monocrystalline ingots, wafers and cells to the assembly of high quality modules.[1] Trina Solar sells its products in Europe and other countries around the globe.[3] Trina Solar successfully completed its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in December, 2006.[1] Trina Solar also sponsors the Lotus F1 Team.

Production

Trina Solar is the third largest solar module company in China and the fourth largest solar panel company worldwide, according to PVinsights. Trina Solar is also the third largest silicon solar module company in the world since First Solar is a thin-film based solar module company. It shipped around four hundred MW of solar panels in 2009.

Trina Solar is also a vertically integrated solar manufacturer with capabilities of solar modules, solar cells and solar wafers. It is believed that in a quick free price fall situation, vertically integrated solar companies could sustain more pressure than others. In 2Q11, solar cell price dropped 32.2%, according to PVinsights historical solar price. Five leading Chinese solar module companies, most of them vertically integrated expand their market share to over 30%, a huge jump from below 20% in 2Q09, according to PVinsights monthly updated solar module shipment report
