Trevor Dougherty (born June 6, 1992) is an activist and multimedia producer, currently studying at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His campaign against sexism at UNC gained national attention in 2014.[1][2] Since 2008 his short videos and advocacy work have been featured by several international media outlets such as CNN[3] the BBC,[4] The Associated Press,[5] and The New York Times.[6]

Career as video producer and activist

Dougherty started posting videos online under the pseudonym "maddogza" in 2007 [7] and was YouTube's youngest "guest editor," before becoming one of the first official members of YouTube's Partner Program.[8] In 2008, Dougherty organized a world record attempt in Ithaca, New York, forming the world's largest human peace sign with 5,814 people.[4] During the 2008 U.S. Presidential Elections, he was discovered by CNN iReport when he uploaded videos from the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Since then, more than 100 of his reports have been used in CNN's coverage of world news and events.[9]

Career as DJ

Dougherty performs at UNC and produces music under the name "good ratio." He was chosen by the UNC community to open for Grammy-nominated DJ/producer Diplo at UNC's first EDM event.[10] He has also opened for Riff Raff, Deorro and Crizzly.[11] In 2014 Dougherty started using his position as a DJ to fight the "sexist bar culture" at UNC.[12]

Recognition

In January 2011, Dougherty became the youngest American ever selected to participate at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.[13][14] He is the winner of the Stanford Peace Innovation Prize and several video awards.[15] In 2011 he won the Morehead-Cain Scholarship to study at UNC-Chapel Hill.[16]
