Overview

The Mestre tramway (Italian: Tranvia di Mestre) is a tramway forming part of the public transport system in Mestre and Favaro Veneto, two boroughs of the city and comune of Venice, northeast Italy.

In operation since 2010, the tramway is 6.3 km (3.9 mi) long, and comprises one line, linking Favaro Veneto with Mestre railway station. An extension to piazzale Roma (the main bus station) in Venice and the link with Marghera (another borough of Venice) are under construction.

The tramway uses Translohr rubber-tyred system.

History

Trams returned to Mestre on 20 December 2010. Mestre's earlier urban and suburban tramway network had been disposed of more than half a century earlier, following the closure of its last line in 1951.
