Toyota ND engine

The Toyota ND is an inline-four diesel engine used for Toyota models in both Japanese and European markets.

1ND-TV

The 1ND-TV (1.4 D-4D) is a compact inline-four turbocharged diesel engine. Introduced into European market in 2002 with the Yaris XP1,^[1] it was Toyota's first diesel engine to be equipped with an aluminium cylinder block. Principal aims of its development were low emissions and fuel consumption, reduction of mass (dry weight is 99 kg) and reduction of noise.

• Max. power: 55 kW (75 PS) at 4,000 rpm (2001–2005);^[3] 66 kW (90 PS) at 3,800 rpm (2005–present)^[4]
• Max. torque: 170 N·m (125 lb·ft) from 2,000 rpm (2001–2005); 190 N·m (140 lb·ft) from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm (2005–present)^{[nb 1]}
• Compression ratio: 17.9:1 (until 2011) and 16.5:1 (2011-present)
• Combustion system: direct injection
• Intake system: variable geometry turbocharger with intercooler
• Valve vechanism: SOHC, 2 valves per cylinder
• Fuel injection system: common rail (1,600 bar), 6 hole injectors
• Camshaft drive: timing chain
• Exhaust gas treatment: EGR, equipped with cooler and catalyst
• Emission standard: Euro III (2001–2005); Euro IV, Euro V (2005–present)
• Fuel consumption combined: 4.8 l/100 km (58.8 mpg (U.S.))^{[nb 2]}
• CO₂ emission combined: 128 g/km^{[nb 2]}
• Fuel consumption combined: 3.9 l/100 (2011-present), CO₂ emission combined: 103-99 g/km (2014 Yaris )
• Sound level at 2850 rpm: 75 dB(A) when stationary and 72 dB(A) when moving^[6]
