Further information: Campionato Nazionale Primavera

The Torino Primavera plays in the Campionato Nazionale Primavera in Group A, the most important youth league in Italian football. The competition is governed by the Lega Serie A and includes the youth teams of clubs participating in Serie A and Serie B. From the 2012–13 season, players from the age of 15 and players that have not turned 19 years old by the start of the season are eligible to compete. At the discretion of the League, four "over age" players are eligible to compete.

In 2013–14, Moreno Longo led the primavera to the finals of the tournament, where Torino were eventually denied their ninth youth title after a penalty shootout 0–0 (4–3 pen).[5]

Youth system

History

Raf Vallone, actor and journalist grown in the Torino youth sector.

Torino was one of the first teams in Italy to adopt a youth system, organised as early as the 1930s.[9] The players in the youth team were previously nicknamed Balon-Boys, in honour of Adolfo Baloncieri, Torino player of the twenties and thirties. Curiously, balon (prn. balùn), in piedmontese means ball. The Torino youth system has developed numerous players, including actor and journalist Raf Vallone, who preferred an artistic career after he had already begun playing for the first team.

On 31 May 2014, the U18 side became the first youth formation in Italy to win 10 league titles.[10]
