Tommy Jönsson (born March 4, 1976) is a former Swedish football player, who played as defender and retired in 2010.

Career

He started his career in the club GIF Nike and at the age of 16 moved to Malmö FF, where he played for 6 years, in 1998 he decided to go to Halmstads BK and have played there ever since. Since 2003 he have been Halmstads BKs team captain, he succeeded Petter Hansson, prior to the 2010 season he was replaced as teamcaptain by Johnny Lundberg.[1]

On 2 July 2008 against Hammarby IF, 1-1, he played his 400th match totally for Halmstads BK, 245 Allsvenskan matches and 155 Svenska Cupen. At the end of the 2010 season Tommy Jönsson announced that he retired from football after 12 years in Halmstads BK and continue a career outside football as a financial adviser, he retire with 2 fewer matches then former teammate Torbjörn Arvidsson who holdes the records for most played matches in Halmstads BK.[2]

National team

He have represented Sweden 3 times in 2003. He was part of the starting line-up against both Qatar,[3] victory 3-2, and Thailand,[4] victory 4-1, and then coming on as a substitute against Croatia,[5] defeat 1-2.
