Thomas Joshua "Tom" Elliott (born 9 November 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for Cambridge United.

Career

Leeds United

Born in Leeds, Elliott began his career at hometown club Leeds United, Tom was the first Leeds player to make a senior appearance while still at school, aged 16. While at Leeds he also represented England at under-16, u-17 and u-18 levels. At a young age he attracted attention from several premier league teams and Leeds rejected an approach from Newcastle United. He also spent loan spells at Macclesfield Town, Bury and Rotherham United.

He was released by Leeds, signing a short-term deal with Scottish side Hamilton Academical on 31 January 2011.[1] He did not resign for Hamilton in May 2011.[2]

He then went on trial with Bradford City, who offered him a contract in June 2011.[3] Before joining Stockport County in August 2011.

Stockport County

Elliott was joint leading goalscorer for County during their first non-league season since 1905, with eight goals in all competitions. He was also noted for his selfless forward displays, helping such players as Danny Hattersley, Nick Chadwick and Danny Rowe score goals for Stockport throughout the year. He was offered a further deal by the club in May 2012.[4]

Cambridge United

Despite the offer from County he chose to move to Cambridge United, signing a two-year contract on 23 May 2012.[5] It transpired that The U's had made an offer for Elliot in the earlier January transfer window, but Stockport County had asked for a fee which was too high. Since Elliott had been offered a new contract to stay at Edgeley Park and he was under 24 years of age, The U's had to pay a compensation fee which was undisclosed at the time of the transfer. On 7 March 2013, Elliott signed a contract for a further two years at The Abbey. After a successful first season with The U's, the East Anglian club were quick to sign the striker to this new contract which runs until summer 2015.
