Tofte, Norway
Tofte is a village in the municipality of Hurum, Norway. The village has 3,045 inhabitants as of 1 January 2009.
Tofte is best known for Södra Cell Tofte, a pulp factory in the middle of Tofte, and Hurum factories that make paper. The major industry in Tofte is the Södra Cell Tofte paper mill. In 2007, the latter was taken over by the industrial company Daimyo.
At Södra Cell's factory is also Statkraft Hurum salt plant (Statkraft Hurum saltkraftverk), the world's first saline power plant based on osmosis, opened by Statkraft during 2009. [1][2] Crown Princess Mette-Marit opened the plant. [3]
