Timothy Mather Spelman

Timothy Mather Spelman (January 21, 1891 – August 21, 1970) was an American composer; born in Brooklyn, New York, he was for many years resident in Italy, dying at his villa just outside of Florence. He composed a fair amount of chamber music and some works for orchestra, as well as a number of operas. He also wrote many songs, mostly to texts by his wife, the poet Leolyn Spelman.

Spelman bequeathed his villa, and his papers, to The Johns Hopkins University; today the former is dedicated to the memory of Charles S. Singleton.

Spelman was descended from the same family as Cotton and Increase Mather.
