Timo Mendes is a fictional character from the German soap opera Verbotene Liebe (Forbidden Love). Remo Schulze debuted in the role on 23 June 2011.[1] Timo is the son of Julia von Anstetten and her first husband Tim Sander.[2]
Background
In 1997, Julia married Tim Sander, after she thought that she overgrown her feelings for her twin-brother Jan Brandner. But her young marriage to Tim was everything but easy. Julia's mother Clarissa was against her relationship with Tim and tried to separate them. Clarissa wasn't very successful until Julia got pregnant. She used her daughter's pregnancy to let Tim believe that Julia's brother Jan would be the father; causing Julia and Tim to fight over her relationship with Jan. Julia disappeared and Jan followed her. The two spend a few days together, before Julia realized that she will always love Jan and decided to disappear into the ocean.[3] As her family and friends believed that Julia was dead, Jan was the only one who was confident that his sister is still alive. After months, Jan receives a letter from Julia in which she asks him to follow her to Spain and start a new life with her. Jan was happy that his sister was alright, but realized that their forbidden love is never going to have a chance. After Jan declined Julia's offer, she starts a new life on her own. She gives birth to a son and names him Timo after his father Tim. Julia then meets the charismatic Ricardo Mendes, a successful young doctor. Ricardo and Julia get married and he adopts Timo.[4] For his new family he even puts his career on hold and lives with them in a Finca on the Spanish island Mallorca.
Storylines
The haunting past
In all those years, Julia kept her past a secret and didn't even tell Ricardo about her brother Jan. Timo, who has become a teenager, grew up thinking that Ricardo is his biological father and doesn't know that his father was murdered ten years ago.[5] As Julia gets a call from her father Arno Brandner to her birthday, she is confronted for the first time in years with her complicated past.[6] It doesn't take Timo long to ask his mother some difficult questions.
