Tim Miller is an American animator, film director, creative director and visual effects artist. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for the work on his short animated film Gopher Broke. He is currently set to make his directing debut with Deadpool. Miller is also famous for creating opening sequences of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Thor: The Dark World.

Career

In March 1995, Miller co-founded Blur Studio, a visual effects, animation and design company with David Stinnett and Cat Chapman.[1] Miller was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2005 for his short film Gopher Broke, which he shared with Jeff Fowler.[2]

In March 2008, Miller was set to produce and direct one of eight tales animated tales, based on the Heavy Metal magazine. David Fincher and Kevin Eastman were also attached to produce and direct each story.[3]

On April 8, 2011, Miller was hired by 20th Century Fox to direct a feature film Deadpool, based on the Marvel Comics character Deadpool.[4] It would be his directorial debut which is written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, while Ryan Reynolds would be starring for the title role.[4] Filming began late-March 2015 in Vancouver for an February 12, 2016 release.[5][6]

Miller was set by Legendary Pictures on March 15, 2012 to direct a live-action adaptation of the Warren Ellis comic book series Gravel, whose script was done by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell.[7]

On November 14, 2012, Sony Pictures set Miller to direct Joe Haldeman's science fiction novella Seasons, which Sebastian Gutierrez was set to adapt and Michael De Luca to produce.[8]

Miller and Jeff Fowler are also set to direct and produce an animated film The Goon through their Blur Studio.[9]

Miller made the title sequence of the 2011 film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which David Fincher directed and hired Miller to do the sequence.[10] Later, Miller was hired by Marvel Studios to make the opening sequence of the 2013 film Thor: The Dark World, which was directed by Alan Taylor. The three-minute prologue sequence was set in Svartalfheim, 5000 years ago, when Malekith battled Odin's father, King Bor, and it was completed in just 12 weeks, from concept to delivery. The final sequence included of 75 different shots, most of which was completely CG.[11]
