Fictional character biography
Tigra is the second wife of Darkseid (Uxas), and the mother of Orion. Darkseid was forced by his mother Heggra to marry Tigra against his will. At some point in the past he had her placed in Hyperfreeze for over a thousand years. Once released from Hyperfreeze she was impregnated. After the pact between New Genesis and Apokolips which required an exchange of sons was ratified, Darkseid had an inconsolable Tigra banished from Apokolips.[1] She was, however, resident on Apokolips as a privileged but closely guarded captive, at the time of Mister Miracle's return there following his initial escape. She confessed to suffering extreme loneliness, else she would have stayed behind in her cells and not watched the staged confrontation with Mister Miracle. The other observers were forbidden from replying to her as she was a 'non-person'. Intervention by Barda and the Female Furies allows Tigra to grab a weapon and escape. [2]
At one point Tigra told Orion that Darkseid may not be his father and intimated that he might be the son of her dead lover Captain Hathak, in fact Tigra had Lakutha the midwife killed in order to keep the identity of Orion's true parentage a secret.
Tigra was later slain by Apokoliptian Suicide Jockeys sent by Justeen, an ambitious lieutenant of Desaad, who was acting in what she saw as Darkseid's best interest, if not his orders. [3]
