Thudiyalur is a part of Coimbatore city. It is about 10 km from the city center in a north direction. It has the Regional Transport Office of Coimbatore North(TN-38). It is located 12 kilometers from Coimbatore Junction. Thudiyalur lies on the main road to Metttupalayam, Ooty. Thudiyalur is located on the streach of Mettupalayam road, one of the arterial roads of Coimbatore.

Arulmiku Virundheeshwarar Kovil ( A historical temple constructed dated back to 600 years) Shiva saint Sundarar came to Virundeeswarar temple after worshipping Lord Avinashilingeswarar and Mother Karunambikai in Avinashi temple, in a fainting state due to acute hunger. A couple treated them with all love with drumstick leaves preparations. Sundarar regained strength and came to know that the hosts were none other than Lord Shiva and Mother Parvathi. As they hosted (offering virundhu) Sundarar, the Lord is called Virundeeswarar. Virundhu in Tamil means hosting guests.

As of 2001 India census,[1] Thudiyalur had a population of 20,897.

Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Thudiyalur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 69%. In Thudiyalur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age. It is now a part of Coimbatore Corporation. Recently Corporation elections were held to elect member and Mayor directly.
