Thomas Stanley (1753–1779)

Thomas Smith Stanley (ca. 1753 – late 1779), was a British politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Lancashire 1776–1779.[1]

He was born the son of James Smith-Stanley, Lord Strange and educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge.[2]

He joined the army as a cornet in the 16th Light Dragoons in 1775, was promoted captain in the 17th Light Dragoonns in 1776 and made major in the 79th Foot in 1777.

In 1776 he was elected unopposed as knight of the shire (MP) for Lancashire.

In 1779 he went with his regiment to Jamaica and died there the same year.
